It is still possible to enjoy gardening at home even with a limited space. This can be done through planting in fantastic containers in a multitude of shapes and sizes; it’s never been easier to flex your green thumb in the smallest of spaces.
In choosing the area where you are going to place the containers, you need to consider how much sun, rain and the wind the area gets. Climate has a great impact on the condition of the plants. That is why it is important to find out what type of climate you have in your locality.
Picking plants is not a simple task as it may seem. You have to consider not only your needs but also the needs of these plants you will choose. If it is impossible for you to water them very often, then do not choose a high maintenance plants. If your place is continually exposed to the sun, then you have to provide shades for your plants. If you can’t do this, don’t choose plants who love to be under the shade.
Never settle for a cheap soil, like those found in your backyard or garden; it will likely be full of weeds just waiting to pop up. This kind of soil will only harden like cement over time. Invest in a soil of high quality and buy good containers.
Arrange properly the containers before starting to plant. For those extra-deep containers, fill the bottom with upside-down plastic takeout containers in order to use less soil and save money in the process. Then plant your seedlings by covering the filler with oil, or simply add soil until the pot is about halfway full. With extra care, gently work the roots of the plant apart and spread them over the top of the soil. Then add more soil and press down gently.
Once you are done planting, water the plants right away. However, do not over- and under- water the plants as these are the sure ways to kill them. Water should be enough not to drown them. Aside from watering, the containers must be continually freed from dead and decaying matter as well as pests.
