Container gardening with vegetables?
I’d like to grow cherry tomatoes, lettuce, pea pods, green beans, and herbs. Can you grow those types of things in window boxes…or are those too shallow? I’ve never gardened in containers before; I’d appreciate any good info. Thank you!!!

Ive just bought some lovely cherry tomatoes from www.sutton.co.uk that you put in a hanging basket – they look lovely!! They also have a big list of vegetables you can grow in containers only!!

Tomatoes need a deep pot or bucket as do pea pods and beans but you may be able to brow your lettuce and herrs in the window boxes.

find 2 five gallon buckets
drill about 6 1 inch holes in the bottom of one of the buckets and place it inside the other
place medium sized rock in the bottom of the bucket w/the holes and then fill 3/4 of it up with potting soil
plant the tomato plant, and insert a long thin dowel rod along side
as the plant grows, use strips of cloth to tie the plant to the rod so that it stays up right
Yes you can grow smaller varieties of tomato’s and other vegetables in a container or window box. I currently have 3 cherry tomatoes in containers.

http://www.tomatogrowers.com – they have a great catalog to order tomato seeds (other veggies as well). You can buy seeds for varieties that are specifically for containers.
http://www.earthbox.com – I have a couple of Earthboxes. If you have room for these, they are great – you can pretty much grow any vegetables in them.
